The witchy friend

Think moons, black cats and little rituals. Good picks:

The Victorian goth

Velvet, dark wood, lace and candlelight. Good picks:

• A velvet or coffin-shaped jewelry box. Useful every day, and it suits a dressing table all year.
• Candelabra-style candle holders. Look for a wide, heavy base.

Candles come up often in goth gifting, so a safety note belongs here. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) says to keep candles at least 1 foot from anything that can burn, to use sturdy holders that won’t tip over easily, and to blow candles out when leaving the room or going to bed. It also notes that December is the peak month for home candle fires and suggests flameless candles, which pair well with a candelabra.

A goth teen’s first Christmas with their own style

A teen who has just found their look will value being taken seriously. Keep it age-appropriate and budget-friendly:

Krampusnacht is the evening before St. Nicholas Day, when Krampus comes along with St. Nicholas, according to the South Tyrol tourism board. For friends who mark Yule at the winter solstice, the U.S. Naval Observatory puts the 2026 December solstice on December 21 at 20:50 Universal Time, or 3:50 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
